Our Process

3DRG provides several modeling services for Architects and Home Builders. Each process has it's strengths and weaknesses.   With our expertise we will be able to guide you to what process will be best for you project.

WE NOW OFFER SIX TYPES OF RP SERVICES

FDM - Fused Deposition Modeling

Poly-Jet

SLA - Stereolithography

SLS - Selective Laser Sintering

Z-Corp - Powder Printing

CNC - Computer Numerical Control

FDM - (Fused Deposition Modeling)

A Coil of ABS Plastic is heated and it is extruded
Each layer is built on top of the previous layer
Typical resolutioin is 100 layers per inch

  • Strength: Excellent (A)
  • Detail: Above Average (B)
  • Build Time: Long
  • Cost: Medium

Architectural Applications:
Interactive Models / Presentation Models / Exterior Buildings /
Floor Plans / Small Massings / City Review Board / HOA Boards

Polyjet - Objet

Machine jets photopolymer material in ultra-thin layers
Each layer is cured by an UV light right after it is applied
Model is fully cured after build and then must be cleaned

  • Strength: Average (C)
  • Detail: Excellent (A)
  • Build Time: Medium
  • Cost: High

Architectural Applications:
Specific Details (i.e. wrought iron work) / Colplex Geometry /
Interior Detail

SLA - Stereolithography

A vat of liquid resin (photopolymer) is utilized
A laser traces a cross section on the surface
A UV laser cures&solidifies the pattern traced

  • Strength: Average (C)
  • Detail: Above Average (B)
  • Build Time: Medium
  • Cost: Medium

Architectural Applications:
Massing Models / Exterior Buildings / Interior Floor Plans

TOP

SLS - Selective Laser Sintering

A laser traces a cross-section of powder
Each layer is solidified and the bed of powder is lowered
The process is repeated until the part is complete

  • Strength: Excellent (A-)
  • Detail: Above Average (B+)
  • Build Time: Medium
  • Cost: Medium

Architectural Applications:
Presentation Models / Exterior Buildings / Limited Floor Plans / Small Massings / City Review Board / HOA Boards

Z-Corp - Powder Printer

Uses inkjet technology
A liquid is jetted onto the surface of a bed of powder
The layer solidifies and a new layer of powder is added
The process repeats until the part is done

  • Strength: Average (C)
  • Detail: Above Average (B)
  • Build Time: Fast
  • Cost: Low

Architectural Applications:
Massing Models / Color Models / Interior Detail / Floor Plans

TOP

Milling - CNC

Subtractive process
Starts with a high-density polyurethane foam
Machine cuts away unnecessary material
Color image is then printed directly on the surface

  • Strength: Above Average (B)
  • Detail: Above Average (B)
  • Build Time: Medium
  • Cost: Medium

Architectural Applications:
Topography / Massing Models / Topography with Site Plan
